Implicit TLS and Explicit TLS in SecureBlackbox - SecureBlackbox®
Application-level protocols such as HTTP, FTP, SMTP, POP3, IMAP can be secured using SSL/TLS layer.
This is done in two modes - explicit and implicit.
In implicit mode first SSL/TLS connection is established, then protocol connection is carried over the protected channel. In explicit mode the TLS connection parameters are negotiated using the command on the protocol level.
The table below will help you find which ports are used for each protocol in implicit and explicit modes:
|Protocol||Implicit TLS||Explicit TLS|
|HTTP||443||80 (explicit mode is almost never used in HTTP)|
|SMTP||993, sometimes 465||25, 587|
SecureBlackbox supports implicit and explicit modes in FTP, SMTP and POP3 components. This lets you connect to greater number of servers which use SSL/TLS.
