Register SolFS drives are Removable

SolFS drives seem to be registered as FIXED drives in Windows.
Certain applications (indexing services) therefor don't seem to detect these drives when they are mounted/dismounted.

They would be detected if SolFS would register (or preferable, make this an option) as a Removable device.

Would this be possible?
Is there a reason why this is not the case?
Are there significant differences we must know?
Does it have downsides compared to fixed drives?

Device type is specified using combination of values of StorageType and StorageCharacteristics properties.

You need to remember, that SolFS provides a drive (data container), not a device (at least until next release), so some applications that want to control the device will not handle the virtual disk properly anyway.

Can you explain that a bit more?

Also, if I understand correctly, this feature is coming (next release?) When would that be?

In brief, you don't see SolFS volumes in Disk Management snap-in of Microsoft Management Console. This is because SolFS is not a device driver. It doesn't represent a device (such as flash card, for example). It represents a drive like network-mounted drive.

In next version (it will be SolFS 5, to be available in december) there will be a plug-n-play device driver included, which will emulate a physical device. If you install the drivers in PnP mode, one will be able to see a new "device" in the system. For some badly written applications, which work with devices, not drives, this will see and identify SolFS volumes.

Sincerely yours
