I received an email from dropbox stating v1 will be turned off on June 28, 2017.

So, 3 chained questions

1. What version of the drop box api is used in Secure Black Box 15?
2. If not v2, then will you have support for v2 before the deadline?
3. If you will will have support, how long before the deadline do you expect to have it implemented?

Thank you for the questions.

1. SecureBlackbox 15 uses Dropbox API v1
2. Absolutely
3. Not ready to share any expectation by now. We have a lot of improvements in CloudBlackbox scheduled to SecureBlackbox 16, including this one. But after this notice from Dropbox, we need some time to review our schedule again.

Hello,

I'm sorry to raise that issue again but do you have an updated ETA yet ?

I am tasked to write a new dropbox connector but it feels like implementing V1 today (7 month before it is turned off) is a waste of resources.

Thanks,
Stephane

No good news for you, I am afraid. /n software is not interested in updating the cloud components of SecureBlackbox.

Sincerely yours

Now the other shoe drops. I was afraid this type of thing would happen after the acquisition

So Sad,

Were you going to announce that at some point, or are we just supposed to guess which features we can rely on going forward? CloudBlackBox is obviously dead. Will the SSH/SFTP components be maintained? What about the TLS and certificate support?

I am sorry, but all of your assumptions are wrong. Everything stays in place.

Eugene, I've respected you and Eldos for a long time, but that's just plain misleading. SecureBlackBox's Dropbox support will stop working in 7 months, and you've now said you have no plans to fix that. We just worked through issues with Amazon S3's v4 authentication. If they'd introduced those changes after the /n software purchase you apparently wouldn't have updated SBB to fix that either.

Cloud APIs change all the time. If your customers can't rely on you fixing issues with it, CloudBlackBox is dead. If you're not willing to come out and say that, it raises serious questions about how much we can trust the longevity of the other components too.

Yes, obviously the existing code will continue to work with legacy servers. Are you going to add support for TLS 1.3? HTTP/2?

Here I am coming to say that we will update the APIs, migrate to newer cloud APIs (including new Dropbox API), and in general, maintain the components to let customers continue to use them. Expanding CloudBlackbox to other clouds (such as Amazon Glacier) is not in the current plan, but plans change over time.
