hello,
Is it possible to trap reason codes within VB when SimpleSFTP.Open fails (if this is due to User Logon / Password I would like to say so, or suggest it may be due to other reasons - wrong address, fire wall etc..)
All I get currently with an invalid user ID is
err.Number -2147467259
err.Description Connection lost

Or is this the best we can get?
Regards
John

Please use the OnError event of the component - it reports more meaningful errors. The error code you mentioned is just "OLE error", but this is all we can give directly. OnError is more useful.

hi,
Thanks but using the OnError event - the only error returned seems to be 114 for any invalid userid or password (which would suggest based on your documentation to mean -> There are no more methods for user authentication). Is this the best I get?

SSH/SFTP errors are reported by the server. So what you can get is either the SSH error if it was SSH error that caused the connection to fail, or nothing if it was socket error. ElSimpleSftpClient is used to simplify the work with SFTP. If you need details or more control, you are welcome to either use custom sockets (this will let you handle all socket errors yourself) or even ElSftpClient component (which is quite a low-level control that gives you complete control over SSH and SFTP connections.

Sincerely yours
