Hello,

Since v4 of the filter has been released, for how long will v3.x of the filter be supported? Should we be migrating to v4 of the filter right away?

Thanks,
Chris

Maybe we make a build or two of CallbackFilter 3, but in general supporting several branches of the product is a hard job which we tend to avoid (we are not Microsoft that can keep thousands of people on maintenance of older versions). So it's desired that customers start migrating to a new release when possible.

I need to say that there was only a couple of breaking changes in version 4, so you should not have difficulties with migration.

Thanks Eugene.

Is there a hard deadline by when we should expect support to stop for v3? It's just for us to be able to plan ahead and start integration testing of v4.

Regards,
Chris

We are flexible in these regards, but the faster you start, the easier it would be for everyone - we'll be able to focus on version 4 (and on other driver products) rather than spend time patching older versions.

There's one important thing which makes updating old versions a hard task -- all driver-based products share a fair amount of common code (the one in Sources\DriverLibraries directory). Sometimes we need to make a breaking change in that code. If we make a breaking change, we update all products at the same time. If we need to rebuild an older version of some product after the change, we need to take the older version of DriverLibraries library, sometimes make a change in it, build it, then keep a branch of DriverLibraries just for that older version ... that's a PITA to support and can cause unexpected errors and mess (we had this experience before). So it's better to keep one release version of each product, and maybe some upcoming beta version.

Sincerely yours

Thank you for your reply.

Do we need to purchase a new license for v4, or can we just download the v4 package and deploy the api dll and .sys file in place of the v3 files?

Also, we use a custom-built version of the driver. Has the rebuild procedure changed a lot in v4?

Regards,
Chris
