Hi there,

I previously ran a program in Debug mode that set up a CBFS based drive which worked fine. The program was terminated without unmounting the drive and left a shadow drive behind. I restarted my machine, and now when I try run the CBFS program again, the error it throws during the InstallDriver() call is as follows: The specified service does not exist as an installed service.

Any help on how to resolve this would be greatly appreciated.

The particular CBFSNet.dll is version 1.0.7.26404 built for .NET 1.1.

Please download 1.0.8 from the site. It should solve the problem of orphan devices. Also, it includes CheckDriverStatus function: you should not call InstallDriver on each application start and using CheckDriverStatus you can avoid doing this.

The new 1.0.8 DLL has broken the program completely. This new problem is the same issue that Dan Cooper raised with Vladimir in email correspondence (Dan is my colleague) regarding the assembly failing to load at all.

And the solution was to remove the previous drivers.

I have just tried the solution of removing the previous drivers completely and reinstalling 1.0.8 using the MSI and this did not solve the problem I was experiencing.

However, substituting the 1.0.8 DLL with the binary that Vladimir sent to Dan did. The driver now reports its version as 1.0.8.18, but I think due to the lower version DLL not having the functionality, it does not remove the phantom drives. Clearly then, the 1.0.8 assembly in the MSI is at fault and not the drivers themselves.

Can you please notify us when a working 1.0.8 assembly will become available?

Many thanks for your help.

The version on the site is valid and working. There can be a problem in your particular case, but you have already received an updated assembly. So I don't understand what else you need at the moment.

Also, what do you mean by "MSI"?

By "MSI" I meant the installer executable in the cbfs.zip download - sorry for the confusion there.

Our particular case is 4 different machines that have attempted to run the CBFS version downloaded from the site without success, all with the symptoms as previously described.

What we need now then is a strongly named version of the assembly sent by Vladimir (which is the latest version as you have now confirmed), which we know works, as the downloadable version does not work in our particular cases.

Thanks again for the help.

As you have not purchased a license, you should wait for the next update which will be released when we feel a need in it. Registered customers get priority updates (i.e. we build private builds for them).
