Create virtual disks backed by memory or custom location, expose disk images as disks and more.

Hi,

We'd like to exclude Windows Search/Indexing from scanning our virtual CbFs drive.

Can using some specific StorageType/StorageCharacteristics help us?

Any suggestions are welcome!

Does the Windows scan the "removable" disks (when the CallbackFileSystem.StorageCharacteristics property is set to scRemovableMedia)? Also try this property with StorageType set to stDisk as well as stDiskPnP.

Unfortunately the Windows scans the "removable" disks (with StorageType stDisk as well as stDiskPnP)

And what about network disks?

In general the question of "how to disable indexing" should be asked on Microsoft forums rather than here - we don't know how particular software behaves and in some cases only its authors can give a meaningful advice.

What Windows version do you use?
Have you checked Indexing Options in the Control Panel?

Of course it's possible to disable search for particular drive letter via UI or registry settings, but the question is how to do this via API. I'll ask on StackOverflow now.

Now that was easy: here's what MSDN says.

Hello everyone, I am also interested in the problem

I create a virtual storage (stDisk) and operating system add it by default in indexed locations (even if I create an stDiskPnP seems that the os add always it in indexed locations). I would like to exclude my virtual disk to search by content, because this involves a series of readings that I want to avoid.

It's possible with some CBFS properties?

Thanks in advance,
Davide

Please would you be so kind to tell me, whether you had a chance to read the thread before posting "me too"? The answer is provided above.

Sincerely yours

Eugene, I read the thread and content of MSDN link that you have posted, but I don't find the solution.
