we have created a network mounting point using CreateStorage, AddMountingPoint, MountMedia (in this order)
However, on some foreign machines we get an exception in Mountmedia with error code = 1 (INVALID Function)

What could be the reason?

Check whether the problem is reproduced with the Mapper sample. Modify it first if it's necessary, in order to create a virtual disk with the same parameters.

Also check your implementation of OnMount event handler. If it fails, you'll get the error on mounting. Then also check implementations of OnGetVolume*() events.
