I am currently facing an issue whereas the drive is always mounting as a removable drive on WHS 2011.

It does not matter whether I use PnP or basic disk.
The SetStorageCharacteristics are not set to any value.

If memory serves, the virtual filesystem must mimic NTFS in order to be recognized as fixed. This includes setting filesystem name to NTFS and also implementing all events, including security-related, alternate streams and maybe even File ID support (not sure about the last one).

Hum, on further update, I used to think this issue was isolated to WHS, but it also the case on XP.

I have implemented all the callbacks, set the filesystem name to NTFS before adding the mountpoint, still no luck getting the drive to show up as fixed.
The only thing not supported in my implementation is short names.

Confirmed. My initial remark applied only to WHS, it's not applicable to XP at all.

Now that was simple. StorageCharacteristics property is [scRemovableMedia] by default. You need to explicitly set it to empty set in VCL or to 0 in .NET or C++. Then everything works fine at least on WinXP (I don't have WHS to check).

Thanks Eugene.
That did the trick.

I guess I should have thought about that too.
