From what I found out so far installIcon does the following:

1) It copies the icon to the temp directory of the user calling installIcon.
2) It adds a registry entry to : HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\VsMntNtf\DriveIconMappings

This doesn't make sense:
1) First the icon is in a temp directory which many users will delete regularly. That is clearly asking for trouble
2) The icon is in a directory where it is not accessible for all users on the host. That means, it can only be a per user setting and the icon needs to be installed for each users (using same IconID), but then the registry key is in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE meaning it is a per machine setting. I don't see how that can work.

Is this a bug? or can someone please explain?

1) The temp directory path uses just once, during installation icon.
2) This settings should be visible for all users from the system. The problem is in the write permission for this key, we are going to fix it by changing access type.
