While I approved the idea, I can hardly see the reason to use Java for writing the application which is tightly bound to the OS (Windows in our case).

Except if you have an existing application in Java and you're trying to expose it as a drive. A JNI binding is not that hard if you know what you're doing. A couple of days work at most.

It makes more sense to create more specialized DLL in C++ and create JNI binding to that DLL. Such approach will work faster.

Also, we have JNI binding to SolFS Application Edition (whose API is of similar complexity, with maybe a bit more properties). And it's far from "couple of days of work". Couple of months is a closer estimation.

Except that I've already written a JNI binding;-) Perhaps I'm missing something; what where your main holdups with the SolFS bindings?

What makes the "code" different from "product"? Test cases, thorough testing, documentation, samples.
