Hi

I am trying to install on Vista 32 bit Home Premium.

I have compiled Mounter.exe on XP 2003 Home, Delphi 7.

When I run Mounter.exe on Vista and select Install Driver, after locating cbfs.sys I get "System Error. Code 5. Access is denied."

I appreciate this is likely to be a Vista permission setting. I am new to Vista, could anyone please point me to where I can change whatever setting it is. I have a new pc, and I am logged in with Administrator permissions.

Thanks

Hi,

Right click on Mounter.exe in Explorer and choose "Run as admin".
Or create the manifest file and add there the "requestedPrivileges" section with the "requireAdministrator" level. For details google for "Vista manifest requestedPrivileges".
But the administrator rights are necessary only for the installation. The following work with CallbackFS doesn't require them.

Thanks Vladimir.

I have also been researching the message on the Internet, and have identified that you can go the control panel/user accounts and then turn off User Account Control. CBFS drivers install and work fine after that.

We will incorporate both methods in our installation documentation.

Disabling UAC is a system-wide setting and is not recommended for the average Joe and Mary.

Instead, I'd recommend that you move driver installation / deinstallation to either the application installer or a separate module which can include the manifest.

I have the same issue:

1. I am using CBFS (ver 3, latest from download) on Win7 box with x64 confg.
2. I am running as admin,
3. I have tried the executable to run as admin,
4. Also I tried to lower down the UAC
5. All suggestion in this thread has been tried but no luck.

issue:
Trying to run sample examples like vMounter
* It compiled fine
* Got the menu, click on button "Install Driver"
* Pop up with title as "CallbackFS installation package" to choose cbfs.cab
* selected the file and clicked open.
* got the pop up with title "Mapper" message saying as "Access is denied"
* OK button as a option to choose, not able to move forward.

Please help.

To move forward with the CBFS integration to my application.
My application requirement is to create a mount point in C:/users/uasername/myvfsDrive then pull the files from cloud if not in my local cache. Suggest which sample example is most suitable for this requirement.

Thanks for your time.

Please recheck if vMounter during the driver installation is executed elevated (i.e. "run as admin"). Also check for the system logs - perhaps there are some messages associated with the installation there.
Thanks.

I think the Mapper sample is the best for it.

Thank you Vladimir,
I am now trying to run mapper sample per your suggestion.
I started my Visual Studio with run as admin option.
There is no "Access is Denied" issue anymore.

But I got the crash after selecting the "cbfs.cab" file from mapper example.

Attaching the output window contains for your reference.

Also could you tell me the way how to find system log file containing messages associated with installation ?

One more option to check - download SFTP Net Drive application and see if it installs itself and works correctly. Note - current version of SFTP Net Drive uses older build of CBFS (3.2 RC2, not 3.2 release) so please download it for testing only.

There is nothing attached to the message. Please either specify what a crash you get or create a screenshot and attach it here.
