Trace file remains empty

We're facing problems with sending messages via the SFTP adapter. In the event log we find "Connection lost (error code 10058)".
To be able to determine the cause, we've configured tracing to file on the adapter with these settings.

Trace Filename: c:\logs\SFTPLog.log
Trace Mode: Debug
Trace to Event Log: Yes
Trace to File: Yes

However the log file remains empty, although BizTalk is trying to send messages via the adapter.
Without the trace file I cannot determine the cause of 10058. We can connect to the SFTP server we want to send messages to with an SFTP client so the server is available and reachable.

Please help.

Thank you for contacting us.

A quick question: have you re-started the BizTalk host instance and the BizTalk application after changing the adapter configuration?

Yes, we already had restarted the host instance the send ports are running under.
This automatically restarts the application, but to be sure we've restarted the application now as well.

The send port is retrying and I notice the date modified of the log file changes accordingly, but the contents remain empty.

Hmm, this is quite strange. And does the log file grow eventually?

BTW, what software do you use to monitor the log file?

I guess it might have something to do with permissions. Please re-check that BizTalk process has write access to the trace file location. You might wish to try to place the trace file in the temporary directory (which is usually accessible for everyone for writing) and check if the log file is saved normally there.

Sometimes the solution can be very easy.
It was actually the write permissions on the folder for the host instance account.
Strange that the date modified changes if there are no permissions.
