PDFBlackbox includes own PDF processor and does not use third-party libraries for cryptography operations or for loading or saving PDF documents. To perform cryptographic functions and for PKI operations PDFBlackbox uses PKIBlackbox, base functions of which are included with PDFBlackbox package.

With PDFBlackbox you can add long-term signatures with timestamping (PAdES standard). PAdES requires additional license for complete PKIBlackbox package. Also PAdES specification requires collection of external timestamps and complete certificate chain revocation information. This is performed by PDFBlackbox with help of additional SecureBlackbox packages (HTTPBlackbox client and LDAPBlackbox) licensed separately or as part of larger Professional package.
